PUTTING ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY INTO PRACTICE

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) works to reduce poverty and promote sustainable economic growth in some of our region’s poorest countries – without harming their environment in the process. 

This approach is clearly articulated in DFAT’s Environment Protection Policy, which has been created to ensure Australia’s aid program protects the environment as required under Australian law.

Griffin hired Readable to help it develop technical guidance, training materials and communication products for DFAT staff so that they can effectively implement this new policy. 

As part of our approach, we interviewed DFAT staff and partners to understand their information needs before developing a range of materials. These were tested, refined and tested again to ensure they would be of real benefit to staff in their day-to-day work. 

Environmental compliance is a highly specialised area and not an easy topic to master. Griffin's guidance notes, training materials and communication products have effectively translated complex concepts and ideas into readable, useable information. Information that is helping DFAT staff around the world to put policy into practice and safeguard our environment.

COMMUNICATING A NEW STRATEGY

The Luc Hoffmann Institute is an independent scientific research hub based in in Geneva, Switzerland, that works with WWF and other global partners to solve critical conservation issues.

To secure long-term funding from a global philanthropic foundation, the institute needed to convincingly communicate its business case to the foundation’s board. 

Readable's challenge was to create a document that clearly communicated the institute's strategic vision and conservation agenda. Key to the document’s success was developing a structure that could support a compelling narrative, distilling complex scientific concepts into readable content, and writing to influence the readers who ultimately mattered most: the foundation's board. 

The outcome? Document read. Funding secured.

Zoos Victoria has an important story to tell, but how does it tell this story consistently across its three Victorian zoos? An editorial style guide is particularly useful when you need your staff – whether a small team or a large department – to take a unified approach to spelling, grammar, structure and style.

Working with Zoos Victoria's communications team, Readable created a user-friendly editorial style guide to help content contributors create consistent, accurate, on-brand content for Zoos Victoria in print and digital media.
